Two 1930s stories follow revolutionary Mania “Tania” Shohat, who leaves Minsk for a Palestinian collective, promotes feminism and notes a shift to aggression, and poet Else Lasker‑Schüler, who witnesses Hitler’s rise and later travels to Jerusalem, dreaming of an Arab‑Jewish park. Their voices frame a meditation on the violence at Israel’s birth, from both Nazi and Zionist forces.
