Bill Austin is a struggling writer living with his wife Bertie and their daughter in a cheap apartment. His agent Lucinda sells his manuscript and arranges a Broadway adaptation, prompting a move to a new house in Connecticut. While Bill works on the play, Bertie befriends neighbor Fran and Fran’s boyfriend Wylie, whose gossip fuels her jealousy over Bill’s close relationship with Lucinda.
