Mary Flynn (Montgomery), a woman nearing middle age in a small town, sees the circus arrive and realizes she must change herself if anything will ever shift. She abandons her sheltered routine, runs away, and joins the traveling troupe. As she learns the ropes, faces new challenges, and discovers freedom, she ultimately embraces her new life with happiness.
