As days turn into weeks, they become increasingly exhausted, hungry and desperate. A brief meeting with two food‑loving strangers on a bridge yields nothing because they cannot communicate. Gradually the party dwindles, and the remaining members begin to ration the flesh of the dead, turning each distribution into a solemn, almost ritualistic act.
