A diligent, slightly pedantic stationmaster runs a lonely out‑of‑the‑way railway stop. One night a glamorous high‑society woman arrives to purchase a ticket, and while waiting for her train they strike up conversation and become emotionally intertwined. Their tentative romance shatters when her jealous fiancé appears, resorting to escalating violence to keep her from leaving.
