Set during the era of the cangaceiros in Brazil’s harsh Northeastern backcountry, the ruthless Captain Galdino Ferreira and his gang kidnap schoolteacher Olívia, hoping for a ransom. One of the captors, Teodoro, falls in love with her and deserts the group, fleeing across the arid landscape while the remaining brigands pursue them.
