After finding three chests of copper, silver and gold as well as an old tinder‑box hidden in an oak tree, a young soldier becomes wealthy. He quickly squanders his fortune, leaving only the tinder‑box. Lighting a pipe with it summons three large dogs that come to his aid, who stay loyal. The story adapts Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy‑tale.
