Laurence (Marie‑Christine Barrault) endures scorn from white acquaintances—former lover Gravenoir (Claude Brasseur) and ex‑husband Avit (Jacques Dutronc)—after beginning an affair with Patrice Doumbe (Doura Mane), a government official. Patrice is mocked by his fellow ministers for seeing a white woman, and the hostility culminates in his brutal murder. With Avit’s aid, Laurence barely escapes the country alive.
