Set in early‑20th‑century Yorkshire, the comfortable existence of three Edwardian siblings is upended when their father is arrested on suspicion of leaking state secrets. Their mother moves the family to a modest cottage in the Yorkshire countryside, where the children find companionship and adventure along the nearby steam railway line.
