Tim Kelly, a young orphan, flees New York after his orphanage is destroyed by fire. Though everyone believes he perished, he survives and roams the city’s streets. He encounters Max Ginsberg, an elderly Jewish junk dealer plagued by rheumatism, and the two form a close partnership and deep friendship.
