Cindy Cathcart, a poor orphan on a scholarship, feels out of place at the exclusive Swiss finishing school Von Pupsin Academy. Resented by her snobbish classmates and the strict Fraulein Stinkenschmidt, she gradually gains friends: her witty British roommate, a lively Texan, the flamboyant Lulu Belle, Isabella, the daughter of an Italian mafioso, and ultimately the benevolent headmistress, Countess Von Pupsin, who becomes her most important ally.
