The Pill

Mindy meets Fred and brings him back to her apartment after a spontaneous encounter in New York. They drink and play Never Have I Ever, which heightens the sexual tension. Mindy notices a used condom in the trash and Fred's guilt about his girlfriend makes him consider leaving.

Initially, Fred struggles to put the condom on and Mindy falls asleep. At 4 a.m., they wake and have unprotected sex, with Mindy insisting he doesn't need to worry about a condom. Fred assumes Mindy is on the pill.

The following day, Fred panics upon learning Mindy isn't on the Pill. He urges her to take the day-after pill, and Mindy reluctantly agrees due to her Catholic beliefs.

At the pharmacy, the pharmacist explains that two pills are required and must be timed. Mindy takes the first pill, and Fred, suddenly busy, must catch up so she can take the second pill 12 hours later.

After breakfast, Mindy asks Fred to help retrieve her belongings from her old apartment. He meets her ex Jim, who pours out his heartbreak. Mindy explains why she broke up, saying Jim was suffocating, and Fred wonders if she gave up on him too quickly, testing Mindy.

Fred accompanies Mindy to a birthday party in the suburbs where he meets her parents and brother. Mindy's younger, recently engaged sister adds to the family dynamics, and Fred observes how Mindy navigates the scrutiny while offering support.

Nelly, Fred's live-in girlfriend, texts about her arrival and he hurries home to meet her, only to be scolded by her controlling manner. She pushes for control, including an insistence on getting a cat, which conflicts with Fred's allergies.

Fred escapes a faux errand and returns to Mindy, where they spend the evening cooking together and making love. The moment rekindles their connection, even as external complications loom over their relationship.

While Fred sleeps, Mindy finds Nelly's texts, takes the second pill, and decides to break it off with Fred. The budding romance is decisively ended as Mindy asserts her boundaries.

Returning home, Fred faces Nelly's pushy behavior and finally ends things with her, severing the controlling relationship to pursue his own future.

Five weeks pass and Fred and Mindy meet up again. Fred has finished his novel, and the two appear ready to start anew, hinting at a possible future together.
