Set in a 1960s coastal village near Taidong, middle‑aged single mother Bao‑chai lives quietly with her daughter Xi‑lian, a 20‑year‑old teacher. When Bao‑chai discovers Xi‑lian’s love for her cousin, she forbids it. Later Xi‑lian falls for Chu‑cheng, a new teacher from mainland China. After Chu‑cheng is reassigned, he writes love letters that Bao‑chai intercepts, awakening long‑suppressed feelings in her.
