Set in a 1960s coastal village near Taidong, middle‑aged single mother Bao‑chai lives quietly with her daughter Xi‑lian, a 20‑year‑old teacher. When Bao‑chai discovers Xi‑lian’s love for her cousin, she forbids it. Later Xi‑lian falls for Chu‑cheng, a new teacher from mainland China. After Chu‑cheng is reassigned, he writes love letters that Bao‑chai intercepts, awakening long‑suppressed feelings in her. Chu‑cheng’s unexpected return forces all three to confront hidden desires and forever alter their lives.
