The Magic of Lassie

Jamison and Finch arrive at the Mitchell Vineyard, offering to buy the land. The old man refuses, and Lassie watches protectively from the shadows. Jamison warns he will return to claim Lassie, citing the tattoo mark in her right ear as proof.

Lassie is flown by private plane to Jamison's Colorado Springs home to claim her, and she is fitted with a green collar with gold studs. The dog senses danger and makes a daring escape, slipping away from captivity. The chase sets the stage for Lassie’s arduous journey across Colorado.

Chased by a helicopter and kennel men through Colorado's rocky hills, Lassie uses her wits to outrun the pursuers and even out-stare a threatening cougar. She then meets two new allies, Gus—a down-on-his-luck wrestling manager—and Apollo, a kindly mountain man who becomes her friend. Together they welcome Lassie into their makeshift crew.

Gus and Apollo take Lassie in, tending her wounds and feeding her as they travel in their van. They develop a bond with the brave dog and begin moving together along the roads of Colorado. Lassie's loyalty deepens the trio’s fragile trust and fuels her continued search for home.

On the first day of school, Chris leaves home to search for Lassie, while Clovis and Kelly coordinate with Allan Fogerty to involve the police. Allan, a young attorney who will soon be part of the family, helps secure official assistance. The family clings to hope as the search intensifies.

Chris continues toward Colorado Springs, following faint leads and a stubborn resolve to find Lassie. The miles roll by as the boy and his grandfather keep faith in a hopeful reunion. Meanwhile, Lassie and her new companions press forward on their own perilous path.

Seeking a respite, Chris stops at a small-town restaurant and is fed by a sympathetic waitress who then phones home with updates. The waitress's kindness reinforces the family's determination to keep searching. The news spurs Chris to push on toward Colorado.

After leaving the restaurant, Chris slips into the back of a cattle truck, while Lassie clings to the doorway of a freight car on her own continuing journey. Each faces dangers on a long, winding trek toward Colorado, driven by love and hope. Their parallel quests demonstrate their unbreakable will.

Clovis and a police officer hear Chris's cries as he is nearly crushed by a herd of Longhorns being loaded. The terrifying moment underscores how close danger is and intensifies the search. The family rallies to rescue him and keep the journey alive.

Lassie ends up with the Mike Curb Congregation, who are rehearsing before a show. A flare is knocked over, igniting a fire in the dressing room, and Lassie heroically tries to save a kitten amid the flames. The incident leads the group to believe Lassie did not survive.

Thanksgiving Day arrives and the family gathers for dinner, praying for Lassie’s safe return. Chris spots Lassie, tired and dirty, coming over the hill, and he bolts to her side. Lassie leaps into Chris’s arms as the family watches a miracle unfold and welcomes her back home.
