Fernando (Fernando Tejero) is a listless supermarket shelf‑stocker who spends his free time as a backup goalkeeper for a low‑tier regional football team, never having played a match all season. On the final league Sunday a penalty is awarded, the first‑choice keeper gets injured, and Fernando is thrust onto the pitch. The team’s championship hinges on his save; a disgruntled crowd and referee storm the field, forcing the kick to be postponed. The league orders the penalty to be taken the next Sunday behind closed doors, and the film follows the tense, delayed showdown that becomes the “longest penalty shot in the world.”
