Adapted from Pushkin’s tale, the film follows pretty‑young Parasha, who lives with her widowed mother and manages the household chores. Though diligent, she delights in flirting with the passing guard officers, especially one favorite. When her mother orders a cheap cook, Parasha and her lover devise a scheme to profit from the situation.
