The legend of Sarila

In a realm steeped in ancient customs, we meet Markussi, a young orphan living with his devoted sister Mipoulok. Together, they thrive within an Inuit clan, embracing their roles amidst their tight-knit community, unaware of the challenges ahead.

Markussi possesses the extraordinary ability to communicate with animals, which resembles the powers of shamans in his culture. Despite his gifts, he decides to keep them hidden out of fear of becoming like Croolik, the once-noble shaman who fell into darkness.

Croolik, a shaman tormented by the tragic death of his sons and Markussi's father, has succumbed to despair. In mourning, he turns away from the goddess Sedna, resulting in her withdrawal of blessings, which leads to a devastating food shortage for the clan.

Desperate for resources amid the famine, the clan resolves to embark on a perilous journey to Sarila, a mythical land of plenty. Croolik, intent on preventing Markussi's return, orchestrates obstacles to thwart the expedition.

Markussi, along with his friend Putulik and Apik, is selected for the journey to Sarila. Each of them holds their own motivations, with Apik being promised in marriage to Putulik, entangling their fates in unexpected ways.

While Markussi is away, Saya, a dedicated healer, takes it upon herself to care for Mipoulok and her dog Kajuk. She becomes a pillar of support, ensuring that the younger sibling remains safe and hopeful during the daunting absence of her brother.

The journey to Sarila is fraught with danger, largely due to Croolik's dark magic. He exerts control over Putulik using twin amulets, forcing confrontations that test the bonds of friendship and Markussi's resolve.

Amidst the turmoil, Croolik wrongfully accuses his ex-wife Saya of misdeeds, resulting in her expulsion from the clan. This unjust act not only deepens the conflict but also illustrates the depths of Croolik's desperation and malice.

After overcoming various trials, Markussi and his friends reach Sarila, a lush oasis brimming with resources. Relishing in abundance, they gather food to replenish their supplies while Apik comes to a personal realization regarding her feelings for Markussi.

With newfound clarity, Apik confesses her long-held affection for Markussi, expressing her desire to marry him. Surprised yet pleased, Markussi welcomes this development, paving the way for a potential future together.

As Markussi begins to think of his future with Apik, Sedna presents him with a final task that requires true shamanic intuition. This moment of testing becomes vital before he can take the next step in his life.

Before Markussi can complete the final task, Croolik reasserts control over Putulik, reigniting their conflict. The dark shaman views Markussi as a rival, testing the limits of camaraderie and courage between the former friends.

In a twist of fate, Kimi, Apik's clever lemming, intervenes just in time to free Putulik from Croolik's grasp. This act of bravery showcases the bonds forged during their journey and emphasizes the importance of teamwork.

Upon their return to the clan, Markussi surprisingly chooses to delay his ambitions for leadership in favor of self-discovery. This decision riles Croolik, who cannot accept that Markussi has overcome his challenges and survived.

The climax unfolds as Markussi accepts Croolik's magical challenge, recognizing it as Sedna's ultimate wish. In this epic showdown, he showcases his newfound powers as a true shaman, ultimately defeating Croolik and liberating the enchanted animals.
