Through the eyes of humble potter Celso, the film portrays one of Mexico’s most dramatic twentieth‑century episodes, a brutal clash between the federal government and Catholic faithful. As the conflict gives way to a negotiated peace between Church and State, Celso and his companions find themselves cast out by both sides.
