John Breen (John Wayne), a rugged Kentucky militiaman, falls for French exile Fleurette De Marchand (Vera Ralston). When he learns that a group of her compatriots plans to seize the land they intend to settle, Breen vows to thwart the scheme and protect both Fleurette and the territory.
