Melody returns to Fairlands for her daughter June’s funeral, only to find the town almost completely buried beneath sand. While there she discovers her grandson River, a ten‑year‑old who clings to the memory of his mother by caring for ostrich eggs he wants to hatch. River’s father Scoop, a laid‑back musician who works at the post office, pressures Melody to leave. As tensions rise and secrets surface, a sudden sandstorm reshapes the community and forces the family to confront their new reality.
