After serving time, Martin Luxford (Hugo Speer) vows to start a swing band, having learned saxophone from his cellmate Jack. Back in Liverpool he assembles a ragtag group of misfits and persuades his former girlfriend Joan (Lisa Stansfield) to sing, despite her marriage to the cop who arrested him. Their debut at a heavy‑metal pub flops, putting their musical ambitions on shaky ground.
