Succubus

The ending of Succubus reveals that the creature tormenting the island was a mythical succubus that feeds off people’s vices and fears by taking their shapes and preying on their weaknesses. Stacey, who was initially believed to be the original she came with, is actually her twin sister in disguise—having entered the island searching for her missing sibling. The real Stacey’s transformation into a monstrous, zombie-like state was caused by the succubus trapping her body in a parasitic existence. Throughout the story, the characters learn that to kill a succubus, they must confront it directly by revealing its true face. This involves capturing it in a form where it fears its own reflection, then using mirrors and Babylonian spells to trap and burn it. Stacey’s plan involves seducing the creature to lure it into the open, where it can be exposed and destroyed. Once the succubus is revealed in its horrific true form—a black, demonic entity—it is set aflame, ending its reign of terror and freeing the trapped bodies.

However, the conclusion leaves some ambiguity about the lasting nature of the victory. As the characters prepare to leave, Andy’s reflection cracks in the mirror, hinting that he may have also been turned into a similar creature—trapped in a zombie-like state while his true self is lost. This suggests that the succubus might not be entirely eradicated and could potentially return, much like many mythological spirits and demons that can’t truly be destroyed. The story closes on this unsettling note, implying that the creature’s influence may persist beyond their confrontation, and that some of the characters could still be affected by the evil they’ve fought.
