Deepak Rai [Sanjay Kapoor] comes across a purse containing educational certificates belonging to Aarti Kaur and learns she lives in Nainital. He mails the documents back to her, and this simple act starts a quiet, enduring exchange of letters that gradually stitches their lives together across distance. As their words travel back and forth, a tender bond forms between them, built on shared values, small joys, and a growing sense of curiosity about the person the letters reveal.

Aarti Kaur and Deepak have never met, yet there is a gentle attraction that blooms through their writing. The soon-to-be lovers imagine the kind of life they might share, guided by the care and attention that appear in every note. Aarti’s world is also shaped by those around her: her older sister Jayanti and her husband Nirmal offer encouragement to varying degrees. While Nirmal hints at the possibility of an arranged partnership with the local, respected young businessman Prem, Jayanti supports Aarti’s wish to choose her own life partner, underscoring a gentle tension between duty and desire that threads through the story.

As their correspondence deepens, Aarti decides to locate Deepak in person, embarking on a journey to Delhi without telling him that she is on her way. Deepak, meanwhile, is living in Delhi on a job assignment and finds his own heart drawn toward the idea of a life shared with Aarti. He ends up resigning from his current position and, to make ends meet, begins driving an auto rickshaw, a move encouraged by his friend Pritam, whom he had come to respect when they first met in the city.

During the correspondence, Aarti gifts Deepak a woollen sweater featuring an image of a lit diya, a detail that becomes a poignant symbol of their connection. When Aarti finally arrives in Delhi, she searches for Deepak’s address and workplace, hoping to surprise him and learn more about the person behind the letters. But she does not know that fate has already woven their paths together in unexpected ways.

Unknown to both at the moment, on the day of her arrival in Delhi, Aarti had previously hired Deepak’s auto during a breakdown, and they had spent an entire day traveling together. Later, as Deepak drops her at the train station, a gust of coffee spills onto his shirt. He coolly removes his shirt to reveal the woollen sweater beneath, and in that moment, Aarti recognizes Deepak, calling out his name with a mix of shock and joy. The realization hits hard: they have been seeking each other all along, hidden in plain sight.

In the end, the two finally acknowledge the connection that has grown between them, stepping into each other’s arms with a sense of clarity and relief. The moment is witnessed by Pritam and Jency, who share in their happiness and offer quiet, approving smiles as the couple begins a new chapter together.
