Cynthia Kyle erupts into violent puberty, killing her parents while they make love because she wants her father’s exclusive devotion. Eight years later she is free, plans to marry, but is tormented by nightmarish visions and seeks psychiatric help. Her therapist asks her to recount an intricate, multilayered dream featuring Lucifer, Hell, and her parents in shifting guises. To purge her guilt, he urges her to commit suicide within the next dream, where she falls for an artist who reminds her of her father, experiences a tender school‑yard kiss, and is drawn back to her parents’ bedside, leaving the possibility of any true cure deeply uncertain.
