Dusty outcast begins

Ajar the cobra and his best friend Pitt the scorpion steal a watermelon from a camel caravan, but an older cobra named Saladin reclaims it. Their success is short-lived, and Saladin's belittling turns them into social outcasts among the Dusties. This rejection drives their quest to seek belonging beyond the desert.

Disguised entry to Oasis

Ajar disguises himself as a green snake to slip into the Oasis, a haven for the wealthy and refined. He meets Eva, a green snake who has also disguised herself as a Dusty to escape the Oasis. The two form a wary connection.

Cliff chase and rescue

Secretary birds ambush them and drive the chase to the edge of a cliff. Eva and Ajar dive into a river, their disguises wash away, revealing their true identities. Ajar, who cannot swim, is saved when Eva pulls him to safety.

Love and Eva captured

Ajar and Eva fall in love, but Omar, a snake charmer, captures Eva for his collection. He plans to use her and keep her away from the Dusties. Ajar resolves to rescue her, fueling their ongoing quest.

Ajar and Pitt are captured by Chief-Chief and other secretary birds. They face execution, but Ajar uses Eva's lazy brother Gary as a hostage to gain leverage. They escape on the back of a secretary bird while Pitt stings the bird, causing it to pass out.

Snake keepers and a dance off

Eva meets the captured snakes in Omar's lair, where Omar uses a flute to hypnotize them. Eva tries to escape but is drawn back by the flute's spell. Pietra proposes a way to escape through a hole in the basket, but their plan fails. Eva wins a dance off that spares her life, while Pietra faces danger.

Glow-Worms guide, but prey feared

Ajar, Gary, and Pitt fall into a cave and are greeted by Glow-Worms. The Glow-Worm King offers directions to Eva but also tries to lure them as prey. The trio narrowly escapes the glowing swarm.

Jeep ride and Souksoukville clue

They climb into a jeep with some tourists, but Pitt is separated from the others. A fast-talking sandfish gives them the name Souksoukville and then leaves them behind.

Mistaking the scene for a romance, Ajar releases a ceiling fan that collapses the cage and frees the snakes. Omar races to retrieve his flute, but Ajar escapes with the flute in hand.

Omar pursues Ajar across the city during a raging sandstorm. At the top of a mosque, Omar tries to grab the flute but breaks it; he grabs Ajar to keep him from falling as the sandstorm swirls around them. Ajar's skin peels away, and Omar vanishes into the sands.

Resurrection and kiss

The sandstorm subsides and Eva and Gary find Ajar on a platform, believing him dead until he awakens. Eva realizes that Ajar crossed the desert for her, and they share a kiss.
