Leaving their earlier naturalist style, Reis and Cordeiro make a highly abstract, conceptual, literary film. The collage blends texts from Kafka, Montaigne and others into a theatrical world unlike the documentary tone of Ana and Trás‑os‑Montes. Bad reviews and limited release kept the film obscure; Reis died less than two years later, just as they were preparing an adaptation of Juan Rulfo’s Pedro Parámo.
