The last act of Recurrence turns the quiet investigation into an all‑out showdown. Alicia, having recovered the cell‑phone that holds Samantha’s hidden video, confronts the police commissioner who has been shielding the Carreras clan. She threatens him with a gun, but he shoots her in the chest. When the commissioner begins to torture the dying Alicia, Pipa bursts in, stabs him, and forces the wounded woman to hand the device over to her ally, the indigenous officer Rufino. Alicia’s dying command is simple: protect the phone and bring Sami’s truth to justice.

The video itself is the film’s damning piece of evidence. It shows Cruz and his sister Mercedes in an intimate, incestuous encounter, and it captures Mercedes violently killing a man named Paco when he stumbles upon the scene. Because Sami filmed the murder, the Carreras family had a powerful motive to silence her. With the footage in hand, Rufino is able to expose the crime in court, implicating the entire family and collapsing the commissioner’s protection—he had been covering the Carreras because Cruz was in fact his own son.

Pipa, now wounded and on the run with her son Tobias, retreats to an abandoned mine. The police, led by the commissioner’s successor, corner them and demand the phone. In a tense exchange the commissioner reveals his personal link to Cruz, but Pipa tells him the device is gone. Seizing the moment, Pipa and Tobias turn the tables and shoot the commissioner, ending the last official barrier to the truth.

The film closes with Rufino testifying, the illegal mining claim being frozen amid the indigenous‑town dispute, and Pipa and Tobias mourning Alicia’s death. The once‑hidden video has finally forced the law to confront the Carreras family, shattering their veneer of respectability and laying bare the corruption that protected them. The ending leaves the audience with a stark reminder of how a single piece of evidence can overturn a web of power, and how ordinary people—armed with courage and a phone—can bring buried crimes into the light.
