Set during the early 1950s Korean War, Dong‑man’s home becomes a refuge for his mother’s relatives. His paternal uncle is a North Korean partisan, while his maternal uncle is killed fighting as a South Korean soldier, causing a bitter rift between the two grandmothers. When Dong‑man tells a stranger that the partisan uncle is still at home, his father is arrested.
