In May 1991 Soviet cosmonauts Anatoly Artsebarsky and Sergey Krikalev launch the Ozon mission to Mir. Commander Artsebarsky returns after his scheduled five‑month stay, but Krikalev is forced to remain for ten months as the Soviet Union collapses and the 1991 coup erupts, leaving him stranded until he can finally return to an independent Russia.
