Returning to Suriname to see his dying mother, an Afro‑Surinamese student raised in the Netherlands finds his loyalties split. He is caught between the life he built in Amsterdam with his white Dutch girlfriend and the pull of his newly independent homeland, a tension heightened when he falls for a local Hindustani nurse.
