An atmospheric split spawns a series of tornadoes over New York City. Rookie fireman Brian Flynn is trapped in the sewers with his girlfriend and Lori. Mayor Leonardo downplays the danger, keeping alerts low. The storms contain abnormal lightning, adding hazards. Lars Liggenhorn and the Lawrences propose a rocket‑based solution, but NASA’s Quinn rejects it, choosing silver‑iodine treatment.
