In 1991, 15-year-old Pam from Houston embarks on a journey of self-discovery and seeks her first sexual experience to become the woman she imagines herself to be. Her goal is driven by her desire to find the right boy to lose her virginity with, setting the stage for her various romantic pursuits and encounters.

Pam's first romantic interest is David, an eccentric skater who claims to be a vampire. Pam invites him over when her parents are away, but she is shocked when he invites a noisy party, including her ex. Their connection deteriorates after she reveals she's on her period, rejecting any vampire symbolism and highlighting her vulnerability.

David admits that his visit was part of a bet with her ex to make out with the most girls. Pam feels betrayed when she learns she was merely a prize in the bet, especially after discovering he won only $2.58, prompting her to throw money at him and assert her worth.

Pam's next attempt involves Wally, a theater usher she barely knows. They go to a movie theater, but their attempt to have sex in a janitorial closet is awkward and uncomfortable. Pam feels disillusioned as Wally rushes, and she leaves embarrassed, realizing this isn't what she truly wants.

Pam dates Robert, a sweet and affectionate boy, and they enjoy a day at an amusement park. However, Robert reveals he is secretly gay and attracted to Sam, leading to their breakup. Pam's attempt to pursue Sam afterward causes discomfort and further disappointments.

Seeking solace, Pam attends a house party with her friend Karina. There, she meets Joey, a straight-edge guest, who makes a move but stops upon learning she is a virgin. Joey later confesses he's a Neo-Nazi, leaving Pam humiliated and grounded.

While grounded, Pam bonds with her mother over her past, but tensions rise as her mother shares love letters and they discuss sex. Her father provides a cynical and candid explanation of sex, embarrassing Pam further and adding to her emotional turmoil.

Pam returns to Sam's house to apologize and rekindle their friendship. Sam confesses his feelings for her through a heartfelt letter, assuring her she deserves the best. They reconcile, indicating a warm, supportive bond forming between them.

After their reconciliation, Pam playfully piles clothes onto Sam and crawls into bed with him, hinting that she might finally choose to lose her virginity in a positive, caring environment. This moment signifies her readiness for genuine intimacy.
