After a heartbreak drives 18‑year‑old Gilbert Quercy to attempt suicide, he awakens in a hospital where three women—his father’s three former wives, an archaeologist and an Egyptologist—try to lift his spirits. Gilbert calls them his “mothers,” and while their devotion is sincere, their constant presence soon becomes intrusive.
