Verner Vade is a despised, tyrannical millionaire whose family is exhausted by his iron‑fisted rule, merely biding their time and hoping he’ll collapse. One night he is assaulted and disappears, prompting a nosy police officer to investigate. Days later Verner returns home, badly wounded but resuming his angry routine, and his relatives have finally had enough.
