Set against the backdrop of the early sound era, this tense submarine drama showcases the hybrid silent‑talkie format. A disgraced British submarine commander assumes the alias Burke and enlists in the U.S. Navy. When the American sub on which he serves as torpedo officer begins to flood, Burke sacrifices himself to rescue as many crew members as possible.
