The film adapts Euripides’ tragedy Medea, eliminating any divine intervention. After sacrificing her brother and helping Jason secure the Golden Fleece, she is betrayed when Jason intends to marry the daughter of the Corinthian king. The king orders Medea’s exile, granting her only a day’s reprieve before she must leave the city, and in that final day she carries out a calculated, devastating revenge.
