After the abusive father she feared finally dies, solitary librarian Martha becomes entangled in a bizarre, sadomasochistic bond with her domineering husband. The marriage is marked by constant fear and control, and as their twisted relationship deepens, she gradually realizes he may be plotting to murder her.
