Palmer Woodrow, a lazy preppie, pays street‑smart Eddie Keaton to attend Hoover Academy in his place while he parties in Europe. Eddie falls for fellow student Tracey, angering bully Biff. As his old‑neighbourhood bookie Dice shows up to collect gambling debts and Palmer returns early, the ruse begins to collapse, leaving Eddie torn about whose side he truly belongs to.
