After high school in East Texas, poor Jack falls for Ginny, the banker’s daughter returning from boarding school. Defying her father, they elope to Louisiana, where 17‑year‑olds can marry. Jack works in oil fields, Ginny becomes pregnant, a doctor gives bad news, and Jack’s mother pursues her own agenda, putting their love to the test.
