Kaiji Ito graduates high school, drifts to Japan, remains jobless and spends his days gambling and drinking. Two years later debt collector Endo appears, demanding repayment and offering a choice: serve ten years to repay or gamble everything on a one‑night casino cruise that could clear the debt, and Kaiji doubts it, making it decisive.
