In a bizarre 1980 New York where airplanes replace cars, numbers replace names, pills replace food, marriages are arranged by the state and babies are lab‑created, scientists revive a 1930 lightning‑struck man, naming him “Single O”. He befriends J‑21, an under‑appreciated worker unable to marry his love. When J‑21 is chosen for a four‑month Mars expedition by a renegade scientist, Single O stows away. On Mars they encounter scantily‑clad women performing Busby Berkeley‑style dances and a cult‑like worship of a corpulent middle‑aged man.
