A tramp snatches a girl’s handbag, but while trying to pick Charlie’s pocket he drops his cigarettes and matches. He later rescues a hot‑dog vendor from a thug, using his walking stick to take a few sausages. The bag changes hands repeatedly before returning to its owner, who is furious with her boyfriend for not protecting her. In despair the boyfriend jumps into a lake, and Charlie pulls him out.
