A teenage orphan who is convinced she is cursed, or “hoodooed,” is taken in by a childless couple. She soon falls for the boy next door and feels her fortunes finally turning. The fragile happiness shatters after a trip to the movies, when she imitates what she sees on screen and the supposed curse returns.
