In the final moments of "Gray Matter," Ro uses her telekinetic and teleportation powers to confront Derek, the man responsible for much of the chaos and false imprisonment of psionics. She teleports herself and her mother, Ayla, away from Derek’s pursuit, to a safe farm in Missouri, symbolizing her newfound strength and control. During their escape, Ayla reveals the truth about their past, exposing that Derek was the one who murdered the policemen and her friend—rather than Ayla, as everyone believed. Ayla had been framed to be painted as a villain, allowing Derek to continue his oppressive agenda against psionics. Recognizing this, Ro refuses to accept Derek’s offer to become his successor and instead chooses to fight for her and her mother's freedom. In a dramatic showdown, she teleports Derek into the middle of a road where he is hit by a truck, symbolizing her rejection of his tyranny. Through her actions, Ro demonstrates her potential to lead psionics into a future where they can live without fear, hinting at a possible uprising against human oppression. The ending leaves viewers with the idea that Ro's resistance could spark a broader movement for psionic rights, suggesting that her decision to stand up to Derek might be the start of a larger conflict between humans and psionics.
