Three recent high‑school graduates—Susanne, Annie and Catherine—spend their evenings out at discos and bars, rotating through a series of boyfriends. Susanne’s younger sister Betty frequently tags along, mimicking their lifestyle and believing everything they say. She quickly becomes involved with the cinema’s projectionist George, even though she has not yet started taking the birth‑control pill.
