Gift Wrapped

Sylvester wakes on Christmas morning to find presents under the tree and is disappointed to see a rubber mouse. He hears singing from a gift-wrapped birdcage labeled for Granny and spots Tweety inside. He decides Tweety will be his present and swaps the gift tags just as Granny comes downstairs.

Granny hands Sylvester the Tweety cage and opens the rubber mouse box to check for a mix-up. She notices Sylvester's gleeful expression and Tweety feathers showing, whips him to spit up Tweety, and scolds him, insisting on a kiss under the mistletoe.

Granny places Tweety's cage on a high pole, out of Sylvester's immediate reach. The cat paces and keeps watch, plotting another way to obtain his prey while the room stays tense with holiday crowds.

A huge present under the Christmas tree attracts Sylvester's attention and he abandons Tweety to investigate it. He eagerly opens the package, only to be confronted by Hector the Bulldog, who promptly eats Sylvester.

Granny immediately orders Hector to spit out Sylvester and drags the dog out of the room. Sylvester is spat out, chastened by the close call, and the chaos in the house continues.

After the misadventure, Sylvester returns to the chase and attempts a series of tricks to reach Tweety. The plans are elaborate, but each trick ends in failure and Tweety remains out of reach.

Sylvester keeps trying new approaches to reach Tweety, but Granny keeps a watchful eye and Hector remains a looming obstacle. The determined cat ends up frustrated, with the bird still safe.

Tweety plays on a newly installed train set while Sylvester sneaks in with spare tracks. He arranges the tracks to point the train toward his open mouth and sets it in reverse. The train lurches forward and Tweety is swallowed in one bite.

In a swift turn of events, Hector lunges and swallows Sylvester after Tweety is eaten. The room erupts in chaos as the predator switches roles in a classic grab-and-swallow gag.

Granny yanks the two carnivores apart and makes both Hector and Sylvester spit up their prey. Her outburst makes clear she intends to restore peace in the house.

Granny proclaims that there will finally be peace in the house as she drags both dog and cat out of the room. Tweety remains the only creature who has behaved, and the tension eases for the moment.

The cartoon ends with Granny at the pipe organ and Tweety singing a variation of 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing'. Tweety sits beside Sylvester and Hector, who have giant Christmas tree stamps stuck over their mouths to prevent further trouble.
