In Boulder, Colorado, the story begins with a series of murders attributed to a serial killer known as the Swipe Right Killer. The killer targets women who use dating apps, leaving no fingerprints and suggesting a background in forensics.

Eva Vaugh celebrates her milestone 30th birthday with her closest friends Kelly, Robin, and Anthony. Despite the festive ambiance, she feels the sting of her recent breakup with Jake, her boyfriend of eight years.

Later that evening, Eva's older sister Valerie gifts her a home security system, expressing concern for her safety amid the ongoing murders. Valerie then reveals that Jake, her ex-boyfriend, is engaged to another police officer, deepening Eva's sense of betrayal.
