During the Mexican Revolution, landowner Mendoza skillfully courts both the ruling regime and the rebel movement. He backs General Huerta to please the government and pretends to support Emiliano Zapata to flatter the insurgents, swapping portraits and throwing lavish parties depending on his guests’ loyalties. As the conflict intensifies, his duplicitous balancing act becomes unsustainable, forcing him to decide which side he will ultimately support.
