In the summer of 2008, 13-year-old Chris Wang lives in Fremont, California. He resides with his mother Chungsing, his grandmother Nai Nai, and his sister Vivian, while his father works in Taiwan to support the family.

Chris frequently bickers with his sister Vivian, who is soon preparing to leave for UC San Diego. Their constant conflicts highlight the dynamic of their relationship as they navigate sibling tensions.

Chris enjoys making silly YouTube videos with his best friends, Fahad and Soup. This creative outlet serves as a fun distraction from the challenges in his life.

Chris becomes acquainted with his crush, Madi, leading to conversations on AIM and Facebook. Their interactions are filled with flirtation, peaking when she compliments him as 'good-looking for an Asian.'
